Overview

Since the announcement of SAP® Business Suite 4 SAP HANA® or SAP S/4 HANA, there has been much excitement generated along with many questions.

SAP S/4 HANA Timeline

What is S/4 HANA and Why Is It Important

S/4 HANA is the next generation of R3, and quoting from SAP, it is a complete new product that SAP has invested millions of hours developing. As many can see, SAP has Partnered up with Apple, IBM and Amazon and their investment strategy is clearly oriented toward big data and the cloud. It is important for SAP customers to prepare for this panoramic change. In our opinion, SAP will continue to move away from traditional licensing to a subscription based model to ease the cost of initial investment.

What are the Major Changes with S/4 HANA

There are three major changes: Interface, Database, and Custom ABAP Codes

  • Interface: Using the SAP Fiori interface will allow a web friendly look and feel and enable access through multiple devices.
  • Database: SAP S/4 HANA is no longer database agnostic, it will need HANA as the backend database and tables will get compressed almost 10:1.
  • Custom ABAP Code: These codes will be changed to Dynamic Views; SAP has provided tools for this automatic migration.
